Home again, home again... Helloooo Wisconsin! We rolled into WI on a beautiful sunny day in early May and headed to our home for the next 3 weeks. Usually we are moochdocking at the Ciriacks Homestead, but this year was different. The homestead was under contract and we were helping my dad and stepmom pack up to make the big move to The Villages in Florida. Instead, we booked time at Breezy Hill campground close to the homestead, just south of Fond du Lac. Breezy Hill is a wonderful campground with something for everyone! Tents to big rigs all work well here. The owners live onsite and do a fantastic job keeping this a top notch facility. Kids will have a great time on the bouncy pillow, playing on the inflatables in the pond, fishing in the other ponds or playing in the pool. There is even a snack shack on the weekends that delivers to your site. We stayed for three weeks and even when the park was full on the weekends, it never felt like you were packed in. Sites are spacious and sunny in the newer section. They even have stables for horses! And best yet, it is within walking distance of Kelley's Creamery! The best ice cream ever, made from the milk of their own cows! Our 3 weeks went by quick and was filled with catching up with family and friends! Lots of good ol WI favorites, including cheese from Cedar Valley Cheese Store. Oh how we love that place! Their cheese curds and string cheese are the best! We always make a stop when coming through WI. We also took time to celebrate birthdays, camp with family and enjoy a couple bike rides where we saw some interesting things along the way. We were even interviewed by the local Madison TV station while we were camping on Memorial Day weekend! Other family members make an appearance as well! Our time in SE WI was too short and suddenly it was early June and we were on our way to the Tesomas Scout Camp for our third summer of volunteer workamping. For those looking for a nontraditional workamping experience, this is a winner! They have paid or volunteer positions and have many perks besides just your site. There is free firewood, laundry, wifi, use of the lake and kayaks, meals when scouts are in residence, not to mention the great area in the northwoods where the camp is located! If anyone is interested for next summer, let us know and we will put you in touch with the head ranger. This year we arrived a week early and had an impromptu Blackhorse reunion with Rick's army buddies. We try to get together once a year and this year we were able to host the group at the scout camp. It was a great to introduce everyone to the northwoods of WI and all it has to offer. We certainly sampled alot of the northern fare, including a Friday Fish Fry. A visit to the logging show in Minocqua was a good time and we were able to introduce them to the infamous Hodag of Rhinelander, Babe and his Blue Ox and Pier de Norte. The week went by all to quick! Our friends, Tom & Melanie, were with us again this year at camp. Due to a cancellation, we were the only workampers helping the ranger staff. With all of us having been here last year, we were able to jump right in and get the job done. All was not work though. We had time to go out and enjoy the northwoods, including bike rides, nights by the fire, the infamous Snowshoe Baseball and of course there was alot of great food involved, including a delicious smoked breakfast fattie! We also got some upgrades and maintenance done on the RV while we were here. We added a dimmer switch for the bright overhead lights in the living room area, switched out the outside solar plug for a 12volt plug so we can now plug in the smoker, air compressor or the macerator. Super convenient! We also washed the roof and RV, as well as the Clam that was in need of some TLC. Rick worked on cleaning the AC units and making them more efficient with a airflow hack that others have done to increase airflow and make them a bit quieter. Finally, before we leave the area, we will have new tires put on the RV. Our time here is wrapping up at camp and we are excited to go explore the UP of Michigan. We are visiting some new spots and then meeting up with family before we head to the Grand Design National Rally in Elkhart, IN. It will be great to get the wheels rolling again! SHOP AMAZON HERE
